UNDER 20 GETS MOTIVATION

Botswana’s ambassador designate to Australia, Dorcas Makgato has urged the Under-20 women football national team to shift their focus to making history by winning the World Cup.

Makgato, who met the team on September 27, said it was important that when they play against Namibia, in the U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers tomorrow, they put the game beyond the reach for their opponents.

“Athletes from Ethiopia and Kenya are successful despite the fact that they do not have the comfort that you have here, but they have the desire to win, and it is that burning desire that is going to make you win your game against Namibia,” she said.

Further, Makgato said during the game, they must have a heart of a lion, and the hunger to succeed.

She said the most important thing was for the team to plan for a win, and play as a unit and put individual glory aside.

She said the importance of team work could not be overemphasised, given that the stakes were too high against Namibia.

“Each one of you must ask herself as to what she is playing for. As for me, my ambition is to see you winning the World Cup trophy,” she said.

Makgato advised the payers to take sport seriously, as that would help them to be future leaders, adding, “If you can succeed in sport, you can succeed in anything, if you have your mental alertness, awareness, and strength all found in sport, then the sky is the limit”.

She said sport was not all about going to the field to play, but it built them as builders and creators of tomorrow.

Musician, Vee congratulated the team for beating Namibia 7-0 in the first leg that was played in Windhoek a fortnight ago.

“Keep doing the good work, by so doing you will attract more people to pay attention on you. One day the President of Botswana will also pay you a visit,” he said. BOPA
