Sports Leadership Courses

The Botswana National Sports Council will be hosting the Sports Leadership Courses during the first quarter of year 2006.

Botswana National Sports Council celebrates 40 years of existence.

The Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) has been in existence since 1965, and then it was called Bechuanaland National Sports Appeal Fund. The BNSC was later established through an Act of Parliament in 1975. This year the Botswana National Sports Council will proudly celebrate its 40 years of existence at the end of the year.

World Conference on Women and Sport - Japan, 11 to 14 May 2006

Women And Sport Botswana (WASBO) has been invited to attend the 4th World Conference organised by the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG) in Komamuto, Japan on 11 to 14 May 2006.  The Conference would be attracting delegates from all over the world as a global strategic development to provide a vision for the continued development and progress of the global women and sport movement from 2006 to 2010.

WASBO is intending to send twenty delegates from the sports sector being women who are activily involved in sport and also possessing potentials in leadership.  The conference would assist to broaden their perspective in the development of sport and also able to fulfil the united Nations sports and the millennium development goals that promote gender equity, empower women by increasing excess for women and girls into sport activities.  The conference would be focusing on the under listed workshops:

  • Managing change and diversity

  • Ethical issues for women and sport

  • Changing approaches to health and exercise for older women

  • Addressing HIV/AIDS through sport

  • Changing the culture of leadership in Sport

  • Sports as a tool for peace and development

  • Creating a sport culture free of sexual harassment and abuse.

  • Changing the culture for Physical Education and girls

  • Marketing women and sport in the new media

WASBO has approached organisations to assist with funding for the conference. The intended delegates profiles would be released at a later stage while awaiting assistance from the public respectively.

BNSC at the SACSA Zone VI meetings

The Botswana National Sports Council Chairperson, Mrs. Dorcas Makgato-Malesu and the Executive Secretary, Mr. Kitso Kagiso Kemoeng attended the Zone VI meetings in November 2005 in Windhoek, Namibia. The main focus of the meetings was on the Zone VI/SADC Youth Games to be hosted by Namibia from 26th June to 5th July 2006.

New Excutive Committee

At the recent Annual General Meeting held at Phakalane Golf Estates, Gaborone, a new Executive Committee was elected.

The then Chairperson of the Botswana National Sports Council Executive Committee, Mrs. Dorcas Makgato-Malesu retained her position as Chairperson.

Other members who retained their positions include:

Mr. Daniel R. Tau : Vice Chairperson
Mr. Boitshoko Tsiane : Treasurer
Mr. Godfrey Bose : Executive Member
Mr. Thatoyame Sepora : Executive Member

Dr. Nomsa Mbere is a new member and she has replaced Mrs. Eva Mwila.
