BNSC BOARD CONFIRMS SERUFHO AS SUBSTANTIVE CEO

The Board of the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Tuelo Daniel Serufho as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 1st June 2021, on a four (4) year renewable contract. Mr. Serufho has been Caretaker CEO of the Commission since October 2020

                                                                                       

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport and Recreation Management and an Executive Masters in Sport Organization Management. He brings to the Commission, vast experience in sport organization management and delivery of international sport competitions.

 

He commands local, regional and global respect having worked extensively in sport, starting as a Development Officer for Botswana Tennis Association in the employ of the BNSC where he rose through the ranks until he was head of the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.

 

During his previous employ with the Commission, he served in several key capacities, including as General Manager for the Botswana Games, a biennial sport cerebration that has now become one of Botswana’s flagship events. He is credited as one of the key driving forces behind the Botswana Games and building Botswana’s profile of hosting international events by successfully leading the delivery of two (2) African Championships in Tennis. 

 

Mr. Serufho, is the founding CEO of the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC), a role he held until he moved to the Commission. It was during his tenure at the BNOC that Botswana achieved her most celebrated results, including the first Commonwealth Gold medal, first Olympic Games medal, first world Championship medal and numerous world and Commonwealth records, some of which are still to be broken.

 

While at the BNOC, Serufho was seconded to the Organizing Committee of the 2nd African Youth Games as CEO, leading the successful delivery of one of the biggest international event hosted by Botswana.  

 

With his vast professional networks, Serufho is not only expected to assist Botswana sport achieve its ‘Big Hairy Audacious Goals’, including attaining (5) Olympic Gold medals by 2028. He will also lead the transformation of the sector into a self-sustaining industry that both meaningfully contributes to Botswana’s GDP and is globally competitive, in addition to propelling the pride and unity of the nation, as envisaged in the National Vision 2036.

 

Mr. Serufho has served on numerous international sport structures such as the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA)’s Games Commission, ANOCA Zone VI Board as Secretary General as well as a member of some of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Working Groups.

 

For his part, the Chairperson of the BNSC, Mr. Marumo Morule, stated that Tuelo is seasoned, proven sport administrator and a strong strategic thinker. “He has done an outstanding job transforming the BNOC from a relatively small and unknown organisation to the robust and globally competitive organisation that it is today. He could not have joined us at a better time than now, when we are reforming Botswana sport to have a greater impact and maximize returns on investment” Morule said.

 

On his appointment, Mr. Serufho stated; “I am happy to be reunited with my former employer, the BNSC and look forward to joining the leadership team, together with whom we shall build on the foundation laid by our predecessors, to take Botswana sport to the next level, in terms of both performance and socio-economic impact”
